Quinn Stegman

At just ten months old, Quinn's journey took an unexpected turn during what we thought would be a routine doctor’s visit. We mentioned a concern about his right eye, which seemed to move slower than his left. Three days later, we found ourselves at Riley Children’s Hospital, sitting in the pediatric ophthalmologist's office, hearing words no parent is prepared for: retinoblastoma—cancer of the eye.

Elaina Christine Thomas

Elaina was diagnosed at birth with Down Syndrome and spent the first 3 weeks of her life in the NICU. Around age 2, she was constantly fatigued and running a low-grade fever that wouldn’t go away. Her mommy took her to the pediatrician for what was suspected to be an ear infection. She tested negative for all “normal” viruses and conditions so additional testing was needed. It was at this time that the doctor revealed to mom in person and dad (over the phone) that Elaina had cancer…specifically Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Landen Sapien 2020 was a very rough year for all of us, but not quite as rough as it was for the Sapien family. Two family members, a mother, and son, were diagnosed with cancer. Landen, 9, was diagnosed with ALL T Cell Leukemia which is a less common form of Leukemia, and his mom, Amy, was diagnosed with Lobular Carcinoma, a type of breast cancer. Our 2021 recipient is a special one because while we name Landen as our primary benefactor, the entire family will be celebrated. Learn more about the Sapien family here.

Robin and Jeremy Sloan

Robin and Jeremy Sloan are a mother and son duo and our first ever join recipient of the Krchmar Classic foundation. Jeremy has had challenges since birth, including being premature and things progressing downhill from there. He had hydrocephalus and was shunted to drain the additional spinal fluid that would build in the brain. Although delayed, he did really well until 2010 where he contracted spinal meningitis with a very rare bacteria. He had approximately 9 brain surgeries in 2010. He functions with the mentality of a 5-year-old and requires 24-hour care. Read their full story here.

Cathy Bigler

In April 2024, Cathy was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer, a new challenge in her already remarkable life. Even in the face of this difficult diagnosis, her love for her family remains her driving force. Through chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and an upcoming surgery, she continues to fight with the same resilience and determination she has always shown.

Luis Pagan

Luis has shown incredible strength in the face of unimaginable challenges. Just last year, he was diagnosed with advanced brain cancer, a diagnosis that left his family and friends reeling. With determination and the skilled care of his medical team, he underwent an awake craniotomy and, miraculously, recovered.

Sadly, life had other plans. Recently, Luis was rushed to the hospital with severe arm pain, only to receive a devastating new diagnosis: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Matthew Krchmar

In June, 2016 Matt went to the hospital due to some discomfort in his abdomen. After several exhausting days of tests, Matt learned he had multiple tumors throughout his body as well as cancer in his bones and spinal cord. He was diagnosed with stage IV non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Matt spent many months in treatment for this devastating illness.

Sadly, we lost Matt on July 30, 2018. His legacy and love for life lives on in all of us and these tournaments are an excellent way to remember such an incredible human being.

Anthony Scarpati

Our 2019 benefactor was a special one. 139 golfers and over 60 sponsors came out to support 3-year-old Anthony Scarpati. When looking at him, other than his size, you may thankfully never even know he is sick. Anthony was born with numerous diagnoses encompassing abnormal cell activity throughout his gastro-intestinal system and several of his internal organs, most problematic being his small intestines. Simply put, Anthony’s body mistakes food as “foreign invaders.”
